Good Night And Good Cuck

Director Billy Corben is absolutely SMASHING the record for the director with the most Frotcast appearances, with three or maybe even four already. Who can even say?! The man behind Cocaine Cowboys, The U, 537 Votes, Screwballs, et. al. is always a great interview — a “raconteur,” you might even say, which happens to be the name of his production company — so any time he has a movie out it’s a great excuse to get him on.

This week (month?) he has ‘God Forbid’ out on a Hulu, a documentary about Jerry Falwell Jr.’s swingery relationship with a “Miami pool boy” named Giancarlo Granda, who was really only a pool boy for one year of his life but now is forever associated with the phrase because of the scandal. Jerry ALLEGEDLY liked to watch Giancarlo have sex with his wife, Becki, but, because Giancarlo and Jerry caught tied up in a real estate deal with some sketchy Miami dudes, they ended up suing and the whole pool boy/swinger thing got out. ALSO, Trump lawyer Michael Cohen knew about the relationship and has claimed that he used this knowledge as leverage in trying to get Jerry Jr. to support Trump’s bid for president — which Jerry Jr did, and probably had some hand in evangelicals voting for Trump in record numbers.

After that, we get into the latest Olivia Wilde revelations, like giving away her dog and the fact that she apparently has a special salad dressing. From there we get into the celebrity nannying industry and how lucrative it apparently is (very!). That leads us into Danny Masterson’s trial, which made us realize that there are still some things about Scientology we didn’t know. Who knew! From there, Joe regales us with his review of ‘Thirteen Lives’ about the Thai cave boys, and Laremy has seen The Redeem Team which makes me rant about Kobe Bryant again. Oh, and of course we couldn’t leave without discuss James Corden, his restaurant ban, all-yolk omelets, and his poor attempts at damage control. Enjoy!

We touch on whether Torio is worried about getting beat up at the Dodgers game and whether $28 is too much or just the right amount to spend on a lunch at Taco Bell. This week, comedian Joe Sinclitico returns to the Frotcast to discuss all the hottest new #content, including a new Josh Duhamel movie with Mel Gibson, the ideal form of “Hollywood Dumb Guy,” Tom Hanks’ son Chet Haze speaking at a Recovery Fest in Winnipeg (and what causes a famous son to become either a Colin Hanks or a Chet), the latest wild stuff that Ezra Miller has been up to (including the time he stole a polygamist’s wife in Hawaii), and finally, we round things out with a discussion of the 2011 documentary The Hollywood Complex. This is a documentary about child actors that Joe’s wife discovered it on Amazon Prime and it is absolutely wild. It’s the perfect snapshot of pre-#MeToo Hollywood, the very last time casting directors would ever be willing to say this kind of stuff on camera, and all in all is the movie that seems most like a Christopher Guest movie that isn’t actually a Christopher Guest movie. It is Exhibit A for why child actors probably shouldn’t be a thing.

Once we got through discussing the Liz and Frank of it, we got down to discussing more pressing geopolitical matters. Such as the Don’t Worry Darling press tour, all the dumb things Harry Styles says, whether he spat on Chris Pine, and whether Olivia Wilde is the real villain here or if it’s just a typical case of the media trying to bring down down a powerful woman who named herself after Oscar Wilde. Hey, remember Booksmart?

Believe it or not, we managed to squeeze in ALL THAT before we even got to our Big Review Of The Week™, of Rings Of Power, the new Tolkien show about how Elves just wanna have fun. Matt is a piggy, so he loved it. I’m Peter Jackson hater and I only watched the first 47 minutes so I was bored. Jessica, who’s some kind of damned Tolkien scholar, was in between. More importantly, she actually has some insights into what that old limey fart was actually on about in all those books. We wrap things up with a spirited debate over whether this latest round of “The racists hate the woke show!” is worth paying attention to. We really think you’ll enjoy it. Which is a normal thing that everyone does. Finally, we talk about a new startup that promises to make any user sound white and American over the phone, regardless of their actual voice. Frotcast Bonus: BJ Novak On ‘Vengeance’

Hey, Frotcasters. Nice little treat for the free feed this week: I got to talk to BJ Novak for his new movie, Vengeance. You most likely know BJ Novak as Ryan from The Office, and that was about all I knew about Vengeance before I put it on. It turned out to be a funny riff on NPR and the podcast world, and making fun of NPR is of course very much up our alley here on the Frotcast (staaaaaged). BJ plays a wannabe Ira Glass type who goes to West Texas to do a podcast about the death of some girl he was hooking up with but doesn’t remember that well. It sort of evolves from a fish-out-of-water, Doc-Hollywood-with-a-podcaster type comedy to something almost resembling a thriller. It has Boyd Holbrook from Narcos and Ashton Kutcher, both doing some of their best work. It should be playing in a theater not too far from you right now. Anyway, I talked up BJ about NPR, working on Punk’d, and that quote about him saying going to Harvard made it harder that went around last week.

For the first time in what seems like years, the Frotcast is all back under the same roof. This week, Matt and wife/guest Francesca Fiorentini headed to the magical land of Fresno, CA to visit Vince and his wife and his beautiful new born baby. We all watched the new Netflix doc series about Woodstock 99 “Clusterf**k: Woodstock ’99” and talked endlessly about how it’s a lot better than the HBO Max documentary from a year earlier, but also dissect what makes Woodstock 99 so fascinating, and whether boomers trying to blame Fred Durst for telling people to break stuff rather than own up to gouging kids for water is an eerie harbinger for the current political era. We discuss some super annoying criticism of the reality series “Love is Blind,” with an appearance from Matt’s newest character, “Crying Buzzfeed Reporter.” Finally, it’s Matt’s 13th year of sobriety, so we kinda talk about that but not really. Enjoy hearing us all in the same room!
