In this week’s bonus Frotcast, I had to watch The King Of Staten Island because I’m a movie critic so I forced Matt to watch it with me. Sometimes being a movie critic doesn’t feel like work and other times Spike Lee and Judd Apatow both release 140-minute+ movies on the same weekend. PITY ME! Matt and I discuss Pete Davidson, how this movie could’ve been better, Bill Burr’s shockingly good performance, and why movies always want us to think 20-something year old adult men care who their mom is dating. Gross, man, come on. And then, just when you think we’re through, nope, we got more to talk about. Like, did Ice Cube fall down an Anti-Semitic conspiracy theory rabbit hole this week? And does Just Kidding Rowling, aka JK Rowling coming out as a transphobe retroctively validate us never giving a shit about Harry Potter? There are a couple of accents and everything is pretty dumb but hopefully you don’t have anything better to do and that’s why we love you. Please to enjoy.

TEASER – More ‘Uncle Bunky’ Stories With The Style Master

Chris Santa Maria’s obituary for his “Uncle Bunky,” which originally ran in the Arizona Republic, went viral last week, thanks to his uncle’s wonderful nicknames (“Mud Flap,” “Style Master”) and catchphrases (“Save it, clown.”). Santa Maria seemed to have a lot more Bunky stories, and a couple people urged me to have him on the Frotcast to tell them all. And that’s basically what I did! So here’s Chris, providing the backstory and all the Uncle Bunky stories (un)fit to print, including the stolen shotgun and getting thrown out of a NASCAR race. You’re welcome, Zeebos.

TEASER – Frotcast Bonus: Vince at Sundance

Here is just a taste of our Patreon-Only episode of the Frotcast where Vince goes to Sundance.

Hey frotcast patrons! It’s that time of year again where Vince Mancini leaves the comfort of the Frotquarters and treks on up to Park City, Utah for the very important Sundance Film Festival. This week, Vince regales Matt with tales of the festival and talks about some of the movies he saw including one where Michael Keaton did 9/11 or something. They also talk about Bulletproof 2: the sequel nobody asked for and nobody wanted but was made anyway because that’s just how shit works out sometimes. Listen now!

TEASER – Frotcast Bonus: Star Wars The Rise Of Skywalker

This episode available to $5 patrons at Patreon.com/Frotcast!

As Robert Evans once wrote, “Fighting is healthy. If everyone has too much reverence for each other, or for the material, results are invariably underwhelming. It’s irreverence that makes things sizzle. It’s irreverence that gives you that shot at touching magic.”

That, in a nutshell, is what was wrong with Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker, in this podder’s opinion. A film needs to have a point of view, and this film’s point of view seemed to be “We really like Star Wars movies! Hooray, Leia! Hooray, Lando!”

That being said, Star Wars movies tend to range in quality from B+ to B-, so even when I say it was “bad” I mean that it was still more or less okay, and only marginally worse than the last couple of Star Wars movies. I do think it was the worst of any of the new ones. Matt liked it more than I did, but we both agree that it was better than the prequels, which is a low bar indeed.

Anyway, we discuss all of that, including whether the original trilogy is a story about how the Boomers “beat” the Empire, and whether the principals in the latest trilogy (millennials?) should be taking the Boomers’ advice on how to defeat the reformed Empire once again (with all due citation to Matt Louv‘s comedy bit that inspired this whole discussion). There are smaller matters too, like how the hell people are riding horses on top of ships in outer space, whether Lando was horny at the end there, and why all the black characters seem to know each other. Oh, and Matt debuts a few new characters, including “Bubba Fett,” intergalactic bounty hunter and former long-haul trucker. Please enjoy.

TEASER: Frotcast Live Riff Of Cobra, Starring Sylvester Stallone

On this month’s Frotcast live riff episode, we’re riffing on Cobra, the 1986 Sylvester Stallone classic that apparently began as Beverly Hills Cop and ended up as Cannon Films exploitation movie in which Sly takes out a whole gang of axe-wielding rapists. Frotcast Bonus: Jojo Rabbit, With Matt And Vince

Jojo has an imaginary friend, and get this: it’s ADOLF HITLER. That’s right, on this week’s bonus Frotcast, Matt and I are discussing Taika Waititi’s Jojo Rabbit, which is basically Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom, only with Nazis instead of boy scouts. Oh, and also the Drop Dead Hitler thing. We discuss whether Scarlett Johansson’s character is brilliant or obnoxious, whether we enjoy watching stories about little kids in love, what a Nazi comedy should look like, and pitch our ideal version of this movie, where it’s just about Sam Rockwell’s character getting wild in the dying days of the Third Reich. Please enjoy and subscribe! Let the Frotcast be your imaginary Hitler.

UNLOCKED: The Wiener-Less Lion King, With Live-Action Matt And Vince

Here it is, folks, our POSITIVELY NO SPOILERS review of the new “live-action” remake of The Lion King, starring live-action, photoreal versions of Matt and Vince. I’m just kidding about the spoilers thing, you actually can’t spoil this movie because it’s basically a shot-for-shot remake of that cartoon we all know and loved from 1994. We loved it because of the totally authentic African music recorded by famous African musicians Elton John and Tim Rice. Will the remake be as good? Well, nothing improves a cartoon like PHOTOREAL LIONS, I always say. Topics include:

-When you say Jon Favreau “directed” this, what does that actually mean?
-Why don’t the lions have dicks?
-How did Billy Eichner manage to transcend this format that destroyed everyone else?
-No but seriously, why don’t the lions have dicks?
-Who decided that the lions shouldn’t have dicks and why?
-Are we too hung up on the lion-dick thing?

TEASER: Hobbs And Shaw Bonus Frotcast With Matt And Vince

This is a bonus episode! Subscribe and get the full episode at Patreon.com/Frotcast! You can add our premium feed to your podcast app.

We’re back with another banger of a movie review! This week, we saw the Fast and Furious franchise’s spin-off feature Hobbs & Shaw – starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jason “The Chimney Sweep” Statham. It was two hours and infinity minutes of non-stop action and roast jokes from two of the franchise’s favorite funnymen. No Vin, no Luda, no Tyrese, NO PROBLEM! The plot is simple enough: Hobbs and Shaw must work together to stop Idris Elba from stealing a virus that will wipe out most of humanity and save a hot spy from certain doom without showing titties or penetration. This episode is extremely spoiler-laden so we are issuing a formal SPOILER ALERT for those of you who love movies but can’t seem to remember even the most basic of plot twists. For those of you who don’t care about spoilers, you can pretty much guess everything that happens minute by minute.

We discuss this movie and the franchise as a whole in this episode so you DO NOT want to miss it. Frot on, my dudes and lady dudes.
