219: The Great Celebrity Nudes Leak Of 2014( (The Fappening)

This week on the Frotcast, Matt Lieb, Bret, and Brendan are live with Vince in the Frotquarters (plus Laremy Legel on Skype) for a Frotcast about the great celebrity nude leak of 2014, aka The Fappening. We talk about the impulse to take nudes, as well as the impulse to criticize people when bad things happen to them. As usual, Bret thinks he can trace the cognitive roots of these impulses in his newly-named, Disturbed-inspired segment, “Down With The Thinkness.”
Before we get to that, we open the show with more of Lieb’s exuberant quotings from Red Dragon, some discussion of ‘The Trip’ and ‘The Trip To Italy’ (on the subject of Michael Caine impressions) and Schnitzel Bob’s incredible Matt Lieb fan-fiction. Matt Lieb talks about hanging with Jeff Ross, and the advice he gets from comedians he has to open for in general, including a great story about a friend of Gabriel Iglesias getting in a fist fight with an audience member in San Jose. 
At about 30 minutes, we bring Laremy on. He reads us an awesome new list, and we talk about The Fappening. There’s plenty to chew on there, and that occupies us until we get to your email questions. Enjoy!

218: The Sopranos Ending, Joe Sinclitico Pitches Movies

Comedian Joe Sinclitico and old favorite Ben Kaplan join Bret and Vince this week. We open discussing reporters pestering Sopranos creator David Simon about the Sopranos finale and DOES TONY DIE! We wonder, what is the impulse that makes people ask questions about an ending that they’ve already seen? Is it the same impulse that makes them try to explain what’s in the suitcase in Pulp Fiction? As always, Bret has a lot of thoughts, some involving Thanatos. That seemed a little heavy for the first five minutes of a comedy podcast, so around 10 MINUTES IN, I introduce Bret to the song Creed’s Scott Stapp wrote for the Florida Marlins, “Marlins Will Soar.” I nearly broke Bret with that one. Naturally we try to mash that with the Smash Mouth isolated vocal track. We talk about the Henry Rollins/Robin Williams suicide editorial, then get into David Lynch’s ice bucket challenge, and the ALS ice bucket challenge in general. About 30 MINUTES IN, I attempt to explain The Identical to Bret, with limited success. We add Joe Sinclitico at 33 minutes, who has a lot of questions about yarmulkas and a bone to pick about us comparing the Chinese automatic sperm extractor to his idea for an ejac box. Ben comes on to talk about the one-year anniversary of losing his left testicle to cancer, and at ONE HOUR TWENTY, Joe King pitches some movies.

217: Hey, What’s Up With Millennials? Creed, Locke, & Ben Returns

This week, Ben returns from his Eat, Pray, Love trip in Asia for a Frotcast about Tom Hardy’s Locke. Well, it was *supposed* to be about Locke, anyway. We start out doing some Creed impressions, which, to be fair, are almost impossible to stop doing. From there we move into a story about my electric car, then we end up talking about Ferguson and cops and stuff for a while, until Bret gets even more nihilistic. We quickly need to find something to make fun of, which brings us to a New York Times trend piece about Hey, Isn’t It Crazy How Millennials Are In the News These Days? Eventually we bring on Ben, who explains what he’s been doing in Asia for four months and what he’s planning to do now. Then we talk about Locke, and some more Creed impressions ensue as Bret wonders if the internet was a mistake. Enjoy.

216: Robin Williams, Guardians of the Galaxy, And Putin With Heather

I really hope you are already feeling sad and hopeless!
Otherwise, we’re probably gonna make you feel sad and hopeless with this
new episode of the Frotcast. Not that we don’t try our best to inject
some humor into this cauldron of chaos that has been bubbling up all
around us and scalding our souls (i.e. Robin Williams suicide, cops
murdering Michael Brown, the new TMNT movie, etc.), but it’s honestly
really hard to make any of those subjects funny. But we try, oh my GOD
do we try.

This week, we have me, Vince Mancini, Brendan,
Bret, and Filmdrunk writer Heather Dockray aka Heather The Glib Lesbian live in the Frotquarters. We
start out talking about the shocking suicide of Robin Williams which
somehow segues into something less heavy. We then go on to talk about
The Guardians of the Galaxy and Bret explains how he thinks he doesn’t
like movies anymore. Heather gets into her review of Michael Bay’s
shitty TMNT reboot and how she was mistaken for a 14-year-old by other
14-year-olds. Then we get into the story of real-life Bond villain Vlad
Putin’s denial of stealing Robert Kraft’s Super Bowl ring. I just really
hope that Putin doesn’t this to this particular Frotcast, because the
last thing this podcast needs is to be banned in Russia. We need all the
listeners we can get!

Speaking
of which, please tell everyone that you know about the magic of the
FilmDrunk Frotcast. I realize that it’s hard to explain to first-time
listeners why we are the way that we are, but just keep reassuring them
that it’s worth it. It is worth it, right? RIGHT?!?! WHY DO WE KEEP
DOING THIS!?!??!

214: Blue Ruin With Macon Blair

Comedians Matt Lieb and OJ Patterson join this week with Brendan returning as we welcome Macon Blair to talk about his starring role in Blue Ruin. We open the show welcoming Brendan back to the Frotquarters for the first time as a married-ass dude. He tells about finally getting to score and we talk about which jams got the people on the dance floor at his wedding, and whether he kept his “Return of the Mack” streak alive, leading to an impromptu sing-along sesh, as often happens on the Frotcast. After that we talk about Stephen A. Smith’s criteria for when it’s okay to hit a woman, and Whoopi Goldberg’s subsequent elaboration on it.
About 30 minutes in, we bring on Macon Blair, who tells us about his critically-acclaimed star turn in Jeremy Saulnier’s Blue Ruin. He tells how he created such a realistic puking effect (spoiler alert, by actually puking) and how he handled the pressure of acting in a film he new his friend had bet his entire life savings on. 213: Under The Skin, Chinese Sperm Extractor Fiction

Comedian Matt Lieb and regular Bret join Vince Mancini of FilmDrunk in the Frotquarters this week, to discuss the Scarlett Johansson-naked classic Under The Skin and read futuristic fiction about Chinese automatic sperm extractors. With Luc Besson’s ‘Lucy’ opening this week, starring Scarlett Johansson, we decided to catch up on ScarJo’s last star turn, Under the Skin, from Sexy Beast director Jonathan Glazer. Bret liked it more than the rest of us, but for the most part, we thought the handful of cool images wasn’t enough to make up for a… movie… where… people… do… things… real… slow. We spend the first 20 minutes discussing Under The Skin, then movie into Brett Ratner talk, with Matt revealing that Red Dragon is one of his favorite movies, so much so that he can quote it at length. At 32 minutes, I begin to read a story I wrote for Ivan Hernandez’s show, Gimme Fiction, which I believe will soon air on the Boing Boing network with mine and all the other comedians’ stories from the same night, the theme for which was “Futurism.” My story is called “Love In The Time Of Extraction,” or “Last Extraction Hero.” After that, we talk about Israel for some reason, then discuss Facebook, weddings, and read your email questions on the subject of, naturally, anal sex. 211: They Came Together, with Justin Halpern

This week we’ve got Matt Lieb and Bret coming at you live (I think. Not sure what “live” actually means) from the Frotquarters in San Francisco. We talk about Bret’s ghost and how Matt lives in a paradox of being an atheist who’s scared of ghosts.

Later, we’re joined by Justin Halpern (Shit My Dad Says, Surviving Jack, future awesome things) and we discuss David Wain’s romantic comedy spoof “We Came Together” starring Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler. I’d like to preemptively apologize for Halpern’s shitty internet connect, as we do end up disconnecting with him about five thousand times throughout the podcast. We go on to talk about the ludicrous amount of money that some of our podcasting peers have been making and we then spend the remainder of the podcast just begging (into our brand new dildo-microphones) for our listeners to spread the good word of the Frotcast to all of their friends and family so that Matt Lieb can finally quit his job as a handyman and just watch quicksand porn full time.

210: The Leftovers, Weekend At Bernie’s, Matt Ufford makes a nice Summer salad

Bret, comedian Matt Lieb, and SB Nation’s Matt Ufford join this week’s podcast, on the subject of Weekend At Bernie’s (turning 25) and HBO’s The Leftovers. 
We open talking about Gary the Goat and Jimbo the Australian, and rural Australiana in general. This leads us to Nathan For You, and whether it’s real or not, and whether that matters. We wonder what’s going on in the background at Ufford’s, and it turns out he’s been making a nice summer salad this whole time. We talk a bit about the World Cup and secretary of defense Tim Howard with soccer superfan Matt, and around the 50-minute mark, we get to ‘Weekend At Bernie’s,’ which Matt Lieb defends and I get angry about because I have no soul and I hate your childhood, as always. Around an hour ten we get to ‘The Leftovers.’ We wrap things up with a listener’s incredible email story, which may or may not be real, but then again does it really matter? Full circle.

Frotcast 209: Pain And Gain, The Handjob Robot

It’s just Vince, Matt Lieb, and Bret in the Frotquarters for a Transformers-week podcast on Michael Bay’s LAST movie, Pain And Gain. We weren’t about to sit through three hours of Transformers, so we just watched P & G on Netflix. We also discuss Gary Oldman’s quasi-anti-semitic Playboy interview and ensuing kerfuffle with the Anti-Defamation League and Abe Foxman. We also talk about Spike Lee’s new comments about “America’s addiction to violence,” as well as whether he’s just out of touch these days, or if he’s actually addicted to pain pills or something. We also have a ton of fun with the new Automatic Chinese Sperm Extractor. Probably the most fun we’ve ever had with a topic. Enjoy.
