Frotcast 545: ‘Air’ With Joey Devine

The Frotcast is back with another together-in-the-studio episode! It was just like old times this week, with Vince in LA to record live with Matt at Frot Studio South, and Roundball Rock host Joey Devine guesting, to talk about an actual movie.

This week we all saw Air, the heartwarming story of how Sonny Vaccaro got Michael Jordan to come to Nike starring Matt Damon as Vaccaro and Ben Affleck (who also directed) as Nike’s Phil Knight. Is Ben Affleck a good director? Do all 80s movies look the same now? Does Nike really need a puff piece? We answer all these questions and more.

If you don’t care about that, don’t worry, we have many other topics to discuss as well. We breakdown Johnny Depp’s deranged Q&A from Cannes, Mark Wahlberg’s incredible prayer video, and had Joey and Matt try to guess what movie analogy Elon Musk would reach for to try to explain his posting. Oh, and Jude Law had a perfume made from doo-doo because method acting! You’re going to love it. Also, there’s a video version on our YouTube page if you want also to see our dumb faces. Subscribe at Patreon.com/Frotcast for all of this content and more.

[TEASER] ‘Babylon’, Joe Sinclitico Is Going To Be A Dad Soon

Howdy, Frotcateers! Apparently Matt hasn’t uploaded a teaser to this feed for more than a month and I didn’t even notice. I’m so very sorry. Will you accept this premium episode in which we review ‘Babylon’ as my penance? It has Joe Sinclitico on it. You guys love that. Hear the full episode by subscribing at patreon.com/frotcast.

Frotcast Bonus! ‘Borat 2’ Director Jason Woliner On ‘Paul T. Goldman’

If you liked Borat or Nathan For You, I think you’re going to enjoy Paul T. Goldman. Director Jason Woliner directed Borat 2 and a few episodes of Nathan For You, but this time around says he was inspired by things like Grizzly Man and American Movie (I would stick Windy City Heat in there too). Basically 11 or 12 years ago this guy, Paul T. Goldman, starting tweeting at Jason Woliner (among many other directors) trying to get Jason interested in directed Paul’s life story. Paul had supposedly been taken advantage of by his ex-wife (his second, the first was a mail-order bride from the Ukraine) and had written not only a memoir about it, but a whole series of detective fiction starring himself, trying to stop human trafficking, which he believed this ex-wife was involved in.

Woliner did direct Paul’s life story, starring Paul as Paul, but he also shot a documentary about the making of said show, and also a documentary trying to get to the truth of Paul’s whole story. The show, produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, is this mix of all three — Paul’s show, the making of Paul’s show, and Jason’s story trying to figure out what the hell actually happened. I obviously enjoyed it, so I thought I’d share my two interviews with Jason Woliner here with you.

UNLOCKED: Frotcast 529, Hitler? I Just Metler! With Joe Sinclitico (Kanye and The Fabelmans)

Merry Christmas and Chappy Chanukah, Frot-sters! In honor of Jesus (and also the Maccabees)’s special day(s), I’m unlocking this Frotcast even for the free feed piggies. This one has me, Matt, and Joe Sinclitico, and we start off discussing Matt’s new child and his post-partum horniness. Then we get into Kanye on Alex Jones, where he discussed loving ALOOTTTTTTTA THINNNNNGS about Hitler (Ye’s words). Finally, we wrap things up with a discussion of Steven Spielberg’s semi-autobiographical coming-of-age tale about becoming an acclaimed director thanks to his parents’ divorce and that time he got to score because some weird girl had a crush on Jesus. Also, his mom had a monkey.

Anyway, if you enjoy this kind of #content, you should definitely subscribe to the Frotcast at Patreon.com/frotcast. If you subscribe at the $5 tier, you will INSTANTANEOUSLY gain access to a veritable TREASURE TROVE of priceless Frot content. At the $8 tier, you will get that AND a corner nickname on Pod Yourself The Wire. How could you not want it? Anyway, Merry Christmukah!

Frotcast: Billy Corben On ‘God Forbid’

Good Night And Good Cuck

Director Billy Corben is absolutely SMASHING the record for the director with the most Frotcast appearances, with three or maybe even four already. Who can even say?! The man behind Cocaine Cowboys, The U, 537 Votes, Screwballs, et. al. is always a great interview — a “raconteur,” you might even say, which happens to be the name of his production company — so any time he has a movie out it’s a great excuse to get him on.

This week (month?) he has ‘God Forbid’ out on a Hulu, a documentary about Jerry Falwell Jr.’s swingery relationship with a “Miami pool boy” named Giancarlo Granda, who was really only a pool boy for one year of his life but now is forever associated with the phrase because of the scandal. Jerry ALLEGEDLY liked to watch Giancarlo have sex with his wife, Becki, but, because Giancarlo and Jerry caught tied up in a real estate deal with some sketchy Miami dudes, they ended up suing and the whole pool boy/swinger thing got out. ALSO, Trump lawyer Michael Cohen knew about the relationship and has claimed that he used this knowledge as leverage in trying to get Jerry Jr. to support Trump’s bid for president — which Jerry Jr did, and probably had some hand in evangelicals voting for Trump in record numbers.

Phew, now you know why this conversation lasted for a whole hour. Lotta ins, lotta outs, lotta what have yous. Hope you enjoy, and don’t forget to check out God Forbid on Hulu.

UNLOCKED: Frotcast 525, Pulling The Mucus Plug On James Corden

Howdy, Frot fans. I’m sick this week and Matt is still on sa-brat-tical, which is terrible news for us, but great news for the free-feed piggies. Since I don’t feel like recording a new Frotcast this week, I’m unlocking last week’s for all the non-subscribers. Hopefully this will convince you to finally subscribe, so you can receive amazing episodes like this right when they come out. Meanwhile, we’re still releasing new Pod Yourself The Wire episodes free every week. You can get those right on time when you’re a subscriber too! So do it! Patreon.com/Frotcast.

Matt is still out on sa-brat-ical taking care of his newborn, but never fear, Joe Sinclitico and Laremy Legal are here, and we’ve got all kinds of #content. Joe has just discovered the concept of the mucus plug, so we all have a pretty good time with that one. After that, we get into the latest Olivia Wilde revelations, like giving away her dog and the fact that she apparently has a special salad dressing. From there we get into the celebrity nannying industry and how lucrative it apparently is (very!). That leads us into Danny Masterson’s trial, which made us realize that there are still some things about Scientology we didn’t know. Who knew! From there, Joe regales us with his review of ‘Thirteen Lives’ about the Thai cave boys, and Laremy has seen The Redeem Team which makes me rant about Kobe Bryant again. Oh, and of course we couldn’t leave without discuss James Corden, his restaurant ban, all-yolk omelets, and his poor attempts at damage control. Enjoy!

TEASER – Joey Avery And Torio Van Grol Find Shelly Miscavige

Get the full episode by becoming a patron at Patreon.com/Frotcast!

Matt is on baby duty, or “sabrattical” as I like to call it, but not to fear: we’ve got Joey Avery, The San Diego Hammer, and Torio Van Grol from the Hesby Street podcast to mix it up. First of all, Torio, as a San Diego native, objects to Joey being known as the San Diego Hammer. But once that’s out of the way, the three of us come together like a majestic Voltron to do some very fine podding on subjects such as Kanye West praising Hitler and going “death con 3 on the jews,” and whether our tweets are doing enough to raise awareness to the problem of global antisemitism. I also pick their brains about what it’s like living in the shadow of the Scientology Center in East Hollywood, and whether they can help find Shelly Miscavige. We touch on whether Torio is worried about getting beat up at the Dodgers game and whether $28 is too much or just the right amount to spend on a lunch at Taco Bell. Either way, a fine time is going to be had by all.
