Frotcast 188: True Detective, Her, Movie Pitches with Joe Sinclitico

This week on the FilmDrunk Frotcast, we’re talking about True Detective (the final shot of that last episode!), Spike Jonze’s Her, and we bring on our favorite comedian Joe Sinclitico, who has a whole new batch of movie pitches. Other topics include the sad realization of what male strippers look like in real life, the doc This is What Winning Looks Like, and why Joe is terrible at chewing gum. Until next week.

Frotcast 186: The Great Chicken Wing Hunt

This week on the Frotcast, we’re joined in studio by comedian David Gborie and on Skype by Matthew Reynolds, director and star of The Great Chicken Wing Hunt. Matt quit his job as a Reuters writer in Slovakia and dragged his Slovakian girlfriend back to his hometown of Buffalo to make a documentary about a search for the world’s best chicken wing, a cockamamie adventure that saw him spend 16 days in an RV with a Slovakian film crew, a professional eater, and a handful of odd fellas that all decided to dedicate their lives to chicken wings.

We also talk about Thomas Vinterberg’s ‘The Hunt’ which we all watched on Netflix, and David Gborie tells us about his time with Juggalos in Denver, and the year in high school he spent living in a slum in Sierra Leone.

Frotcast 185: Lone Survivor, Steven Seagal

San Francisco comedian Matt Lieb returns to the Frotquarters, along with Brendan and FilmDrunk’s Vince Mancini, with Bret joining via Skype. This week, we talk Lone Survivor, and whether the fact that Peter Berg is a borderline psychotic jingo makes him a better action movie director. We talk about Steven Seagal’s possible run for governor of Arizona, introduce the song of the week – “Get Swoll” – and tell some stories from the world of stand-up, including heckler pilots, and the guy who shaves his fake bleeding fake vagina and takes dumps on stage (who you sometimes have to try to follow). Life’s so rad.

Also, we’re sick of you all acting embarrassed when you tell us that this is your favorite podcast. Be proud! Tell your friends! WE SHALL CONQUER THE WORLD!

Frotcast 184: Wolf of Wall Street

San Francisco comedian Matt Lieb and Bret join Vince and Brendan LIVE IN FROTQUARTERS to debate Wolf of Wall Street, along with Film.com’s Laremy Legel joining via Skype. Other topics include the hometown news blotter, in which we read about murders involving people we went to high school with, Matt Lieb’s Lord of the Rings holiday, and Shia Labeouf’s latest idiotic fake apology. We finish things off with an argument I had with Comcast robots in which I tried to get them to feel. It’s easily the best Frotcast of 2014!

FILMDRUNK FROTCAST BEST OF 2013

Yes, Virginia, there is a Frotcast! Unprompted and unsolicited, our new MVP listener (MVL?) Token created this Best of 2013 Frotcast, with all your favorite Frotcast bits from 2013. Well, all of his, anyway. Segments include:

Jim Belushi is the master of his vehicle
Justin Halpern’s interrupting dog and baby
Alison Stevenson’s toilet condom.
The 10 Rules of Christian Dating
David Gborie hates Vince’s bandanna
Ben’s trip to the sperm bank
Matt Lieb discovers quicksand porn
The Mormon name spelling bee

And much, much more. If there’s a Frotcast virgin in your life who you want to introduce to the Frotcast, this is a great place to start.

Frotcast 183: Shia Labeouf, Do the Right Thing, Worst Movies of 2013

Matt Lieb was back in the Frotquarters this week, joining Bret and Burnsy via Skype. We talked about the Shia Labeouf plagiarism fiasco, Burnsy explained some of his choices for the worst movies of 2013, and we had a classic movie discussion of Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing.

This week’s clips included The Most Confusing Commercial Ever, The Most Australian News Clip of All Time, and a couple embarrassing accidental voice mails (don’t forget to hang up your phone next time you leave one!).

If you’re listening and you haven’t gotten to the Australia TV clips yet, I’d recommend sticking around.

Frotcast 182: Matt Lieb, Tila Tequila’s Anti-Semitic Meltdown

This week on the Frotcast, San Francisco comedian Matt Lieb drops by to tell us all about his latest healthy relationship after his last girl choked him out and spit on his face in a minivan. We listen to the song of the week, Tay Allyn, and her amazing commencement speech. We talk about Andy Serkis’s mo-cap Animal Farm movie, and Bret gives us the illustrator/coder’s perspective on hating motion-capture. Bret saw the Hobbit, but not in time to record. He did see The Way Way Back though! And of course, we talk about Tila Tequila’s wonderful anti-semitic breakdown in which she talks about the hollow moon, the synagogue of Satan, the illuminati, etc. etc. Fun for the whole family!

Quote: “I’m fake and gay? THIS WHOLE COURTROOM IS FAKE AND GAY!” -Our pitch for ‘Mr. Smith Goes to the Internet.’

Frotcast 181: Matt Ufford and The Pomegrandler

This week on the Frotcast, the world’s best sort-of movie podcast, we’ve got SBNation’s Matt Ufford joining us via Skype. We start things off old school, with the latest poop transplant news, including the poop pill pioneering being done in Canada. We transition into a discussion of Kevin Connolly’s (E from Entourage) 30 for 30 episode. We get into our favorite TV shows of the week. Before long I introduce the rest of the Frot gang to our new obsession, the vegan hippie rap bros Chef Seth and Pa-Chow. They even inspire a new character, “The Pomegrandler,” the hippie vegan Whole Foods answer to The Hamburglar. We talk a little about Paul Walker and the anus of SEO, before finishing things off with The Listener Word Bucket, including your relationship questions about whether your lady should accept your porn watching and the etiquette of herpes dating. Enjoy. Tell your friends and all that sh*t.

Live, love, Frot.

Frotcast 180: Catching Fire & Oldboy with Laremy Legel

Bret, Laremy, and Vince on this early holiday episode. We open the show
talking about heckler stories, including Vince’s recent experience with
the drunk girl at the dueling piano bar who kicked the piano man in the
face. We lead into Spike Lee’s Oldboy remake (full review forthcoming) and the idea of remakes in general. Based on Sharlto Copley in Oldboy and Jodie Foster in Elysium, we discuss the most ill-advised acting performances of this year, and of all time. We talk about Only God Forgives
and misanthropic directors, and promos for network TV shows that are so
ridiculous they feel like SNL sketches. We wrap it up with your emails
about dates gone wrong, horrible break-ups, job troubles, church,
existential buffoons, and dominatrices.

Frotcast 179: Workaholics Co-Creator Connor Pritchard, Christian Dating Gurus

This week on the Frotcast, we’re joined by Workaholics co-creator Connor Pritchard, who recently wrote The Order of the Magi, and has been promoting it with elaborate scavenger hunt. This week’s theme is “The Idiot Guru,” which was inspired this news story we heard about, where Justin Lookado was in a bit of hot water for giving some sweet dating advice like “dateable girls know how to shut up” to high schoolers. We go through his “10 Rules of Dateability” for men and women, such as “Men of God are wild, not domesticated.”

There’s also our song of the week, Peter Dante’s N-word meltdown, creepy James Toback, Daniel Day-Lewis’s son the rap star, Wolf of Wall Street subject Jordan Belfort’s motivational speaking tour, and your emails.

Enjoy! Email at us at frotcast@gmail.com. Write us some reviews, and send us links to them!
