Frotcast Bonus: Edgar Wright Interview

Here’s your bonus Frotcast, my interview with Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World). The final film in his Cornetto trilogy, The World’s End, opens this Friday, and we talk about his tendency to actually engage with nerd/fanboy culture, the qualities that make him a film director, whether Simon Pegg is actually “the serious one” in their relationship, his upcoming gig directing Ant Man for Marvel (coming 2015), and whether he knows the plural of “thesis.” Enjoy, and check out The World’s End August 23rd!

Frotcast 166: Return from The Gathering, Dr Chauntelle

This week we have the whole crew on the Frotcast. Vince and Ben have returned alive from the Gathering of the Juggalos and tell some stories from their adventures there. Brendan got another dog and lets us know the experience he went through to get dog #2. Then we bring on Dr Chauntelle who has been studying pornography from a sociological perspective. Bret, Ben and Vince all saw Elysium which Vince liked the most. Ben and Bret both enjoyed the visuals but felt the story was weak. Ben shares some medical news he got this week. Then we finish up with some more stories from The Gathering. Frot on!

Frotcast 165: Comedian Dante Nero at The Gathering of The Juggalos

Bit of a departure from your usual Frotcast this week, as Ben had to fly straight from Chicago to Seattle for a work retreat, and he had the mixers and mics in his bag. So we couldn’t record a normal ‘cast (other than the one we already recorded at The Gathering that you can buy), but Matt Lieb, Ben, and I did get to talk to comedian Dante Nero after his set at The Gathering over the weekend for 40 minutes or so. It’s an iPhone recording, so the quality isn’t amazing, but we had a pretty great conversation about trying to do comedy at The Gathering, comedy in general, and calling out joke thieves.

Frotcast 164: Pre-Gathering Episode with Laremy, Matt Lieb and Burnsy

The crew of Vince, Ben, Laremy and Matt are departing on Wednesday into the heart of Juggalo nation- traveling to the Gathering of the Juggalos. So this week we have Matt in Frotquarters and bloop in Laremy to talk a little about our upcoming adventure. We also bloop in Burnsy for Burnsy’s Corner and he shares Corey Feldman’s new single as well as an 80s fraternity rush rap. We read listener emails, play some voicemails, and frot on.

Frotcast 163: Matt Ufford and Sammy Obeid

This week we bloop in two great guests. First we talk to Matt Ufford from SB Nation about Hot Sprots Takes and he dominates your relationship questions. Then we bring on Sammy Obeid, who is 949 days into his 1,000 days in a row of stand up comedy. He tells us how the 1,000 days got started, if he ever thought about quitting, and his high and low lights. This was a fun one, so enjoy and Frot On.

Frotcast 162: Steven Feinartz, Director of Bitter Buddha

This week we bloop in Steven Feinartz who directed Bitter Buddha- a documentary about comedian Eddie Pepitone. He tells us how the movie came together, why he wanted to make it, and some more about Eddie. We hear from super grumpy Bruce Willis, read some emails (we got some great email questions this week- thanks listeners!) and other Frotcastery. Frot on!

Frotcast 161: Cougar Town’s Pat Schumacker, Plagiarism Talk

This week on the Frotcast, our guests include Patrick Schumacker, Cougar Town writer and Justin Halpern’s writing partner, and SF comedian Matt Louv, the museum of comedy. We talk about Tarantino girlfriend/plagiarist Lianne Spiderbaby and whether she’s actually a human spambot. We discuss Pacific Rim, the Dzhokar Tsarnaev Rolling Stone cover, and Pat introduces a new topic, asinine movie arguments we’ve had with people. Most importantly, we coin the phrase “Sharknados are a fishious cyclone.” Enjoy.

Frotcast 160: Ben returns, David Gborie in Frotquarters

This week, Ben returns from his journey to Asia. He tells us a little about Vietnam and Japan, and that he did not partake in any sex tourism. Comedian David Gborie visits us in Frotquarters and discuss life on the road as a comedian. Laremy bloops in, and him and Vince let us know how much they hated Pacific Rim. We all remember movies that we were REALLY excited to see, and then ultimately disappointed. We hear some audio clips, and read a listener email about an encounter with Val Kilmer. Frot on!

Frotcast 159: Dog Shootings, The Lone Ranger

This week on the Frotcast, we welcome two of my favorite San Francisco comedians, Matt Lieb and Pam Benjamin, two folks who are both hilarious and total open books. Pam tells us about all the sex she’s been having, and we wonder what girls’ deal is, and why they be crazy and why women be shoppin’ etc. We talk about the infamous video of the Hawthorne police shooting the guy’s dog and how GODDAMN MAD THAT STORY MAKES ME. UGH. Then we bloop in Laremy Legel of Film.com via Skype, who tells us all about The Lone Ranger and how terrible it was. Bret saw Man of Steel, so we discuss that. Then we talk about a lot of stuff and sh*t gets super duper real. Super.

Those Hawthorne cops can go die.

Frotcast 158: Paula Deen, Justin Halpern’s Tweets from My Sick Ride

This week on the Frotcast, we had a ton of fun. Seriously, you should listen to this one. Filling in for Brendan and Ben, SF comedians Juan Medina and Matt Lieb join us in the Frotquarters for a ‘cast that runs the gamut from silly to serious, as we discuss Juan’s second life as a cab driver, the hypocrisy of the Paula Deen controversy, Stephan Jenkins, the pitfalls of self-congratulatory comedy, Matt Lieb’s lonely lonely single life, and Upstream Color. Justin Halpern bloops in for a segment called ‘Tweets from My Sick Ride,’ involving satisfied tweets from Lexus and Porsche owners, which is quickly interrupted by hilarious dog and crying baby. Later on, Bret has some pretty serious feelings about Upstream Color. Good times, good times. For more movie news you can make fun of, check out FilmDrunk.com.
