Frotcast 298: PFT Commenter

From genius parody of your average moronic sports blog commenter to critically-acclaimed host of his own podcast (Pardon My Take), controversial, divisive, mysterious internet figure PFT Commenter joins the Frotcast this week for his first live appearance. The leader of the “Internet Commenters For Trump” movement explains what goes into crafting the hottest sports takes, how he dealt with the cease and desist letters he received from ESPN and Mike Florio, and disputes SI writer Rick Reilly’s recent claim that Kate Upton having three boobs would be bad. Comedian Matt Lieb (Viceland’s Flophouse) also returns this week, along with Vince, Brendan, and Bret. Matt sings fully-improvised songs set to royalty-free music, we discuss the OJ 30 for 30, and answer your emails. We also talk about Ice T and Body Count’s new cover of “Institutionalized,” and offer an abbreviated “Crystal Corner.” Enjoy.

225: Parry Gripp of Nerf Herder, Discussing Fight Church

This week, we interview Parry Gripp of Nerf Herder and YouTube/jingle fame, and discuss the new documentary Fight Church. Bret (the Dark Lord), Brendan (future NFL hall of famer/human giant), and comedian Matt Lieb (yogurt pimp) are all in the Frotquarters this week, with Parry joining via Skype. We talk about Fight Church, about MMA-fighting Christian pastors, discussing whether the tough-guy pastor is a new phenomenon, and whether ‘is MMA compatible with being a Christian’ even the right question to ask. Brendan talks about the proselytizing he was subject to playing in the NFL/NFL Europe, Bret gets depressed, Matt remains Jewish.  
We bring Parry on at 26:50, and we ask him all about Nerf Herder, his new crowd-funding campaign, writing jingles vs. being in a nerd punk band, and everything we can think of. He tells us about pissing off Sammy Hagar, receiving Courtney Love’s blessing, the strange, enduring popularity of “Love Sandwich,” and whether he made more money being signed to a major recording label or writing songs about animals and putting them up on YouTube/iTunes. 
We finish with Parry at 1:15:00 and start talking about Kirk Cameron’s new hacking allegations and the anti-Christian Canadian travel company that turned out to be fake. Basically, whether the fundamentalists are doing their own false-flag operations or if there really is a community of atheist trolls dedicated to becoming the manifestation of fundies’ persecution fantasies. Frotcast 201: Paul Shirley & Laremy Talk Donald Sterling & Short Term 12

Former NBA player Paul Shirley joins us at the top of the frot this week to talk about Donald Sterling and all the actual racist stuff he’s done vs. the weird stuff he said to his mistress that he actually got in trouble for. Questions include: is falling all over yourself to condemn him a case of thou dost protest too much? And is it better to have honest racists or racists who are smart enough to censor themselves? After that, we talk about the “botched” execution and the idea of cognitive dissonance in general, and then we get a visit from Ben, live from Thailand. He tells us about partying with monkeys and the beach where they shot The Beach, and we wrap things up with Film.com’s Laremy Legel on the subject of Short Term 12.
